Previously, in the balloon shape design prelab. We discussed about the relationship between different balloon envelope with different shape after inflation.
This week, we did a case study on case 1. We measure the dimension before inflation and after inflation. We also tested its buoyancy.
The dimension before inflated:
The dimension after inflated:
It's lifting capacity is about 22g. It's buoyancy is about 36g.
The relationship we're trying to find:
We now know that for spherical shape balloon, we can use the ellipsoid model to calculate its buoyancy.
The calculation is in the code
The error is about 0.0005 m^3.
We also noticed that the envelop weight is not negligible.
Next step, we will explore more cases and see if we could find out a general model (relationship between dimension after inflated and buoyancy):
