For the past couple of weeks, Emily and I have been working on an abstract and poster for the Summer Undergraduate Scholars Program that we are a part of.
The abstract can be found here and the poster is shown below.
I have also been working on multiple lesson plans for the paper robot car. These lessons aim to teach students about measurements, unit conversions, speed and some basic statistics. The students will be split into groups and each team will make their car travel certain distances and measure these distances in different units. This will help them learn to convert between units. They will also time the car's travel. They can then use this information to calculate the speed of the car and the units of speed. Finally, all the groups can write their speeds on the board and then calculate the mean, median and mode of the speeds for all the cars in the class.
For next week, I will try to make this lesson plan slightly easier to understand for middle school students. I will also show it to some other students and get some suggestions. I will also try to get started on a couple of lesson plans using the other robots.
